Makhana :-Special gift from farmers of North Bihar


North Bihar is among the few parts of country that contain  plenty of water .When the whole country faces scarcity of water this part enjoys a plenty of water from Himalayan rivers .This part of india have so many small and big lakes and water bodies which never dries .
   And farmers of this region cultivate Makhana
in these lakes and water bodies .Darbhanga and Madhubani are two main producers of Makhana .
It is interesting to know that 80 to 90 percent of  world Makhana production comes from North Bihar, So Indian Council of Agriculture took a step toward Makhana production enhancement and established  Makhana Research Centre in Darbhanga bihar
Makhana is a food item produced in lakes and in wet lands have at least 2 to 2.5 foot of water.
It  is a weed plant product especially seed,Makhana
is a maithalli word ,maithalli is language of Darbhanga Bihar.  The eating part  looks  likes white small balls .
  Makhana is often used in religious works along with coconut.it is part of prasad at many temples .
It is also used in making kheer and sewai that makes it very useful and very near to god food.
Makhana is not only tasty stuff but it also  have many medicinal property. Makhana   contains less fat so it is very easy to digest ,therefore it is very beneficial for old  people and heart patient .it is also useful in respiratory,artery,digestive,and reproductive disorders. Makhana  seeds are very useful in ear pain removal. It is a cure for Beri -Beri and very beneficial for diarrhea  .
